Cabinet of Curios

I have been working hard over the last few days on a piece i have wanted to do for a while. A little cabinet of curios.
I have used the Cutting Craftorium Caraftroom Secrets usb to cut the pieces to make the cabinet.
I cut all of rhe pieces from greyboard. For each piece i cut 3 layers and then glued them together to make a stronger piece. Doing this makes a piece with a similar density to MDF.
I chose this paper to decorate the box with.
I printed this paper from the Imagination Crafts Vol. 2 usb. It is one of the printable rice papers from The Gothic Kingdom Collection. I did not print it onto rice paper, I used super smooth paper. I love Imagination Crafts, everything they do is stunning. Having their products on a usb is a great idea. Its an unlimited source of some of my favorite products.
I covered the greyboard pieces in the paper. I could have cut the paper pieces from the files I used to cut the greyboard sections but I decided not to do that. What I did was I glued the greyboard sections onto the paper making sure it was in exactly the section of pattern I wanted. Next I roughly cut around the pieces. When the glue was dry I used a sanding block to remove the excess paper. This gives a neat but slightly distressed edge which i love.
Next i started to assemble the unit.

I am really pleased with how this lovely little unit has turned out. All I did after it was together was add some fabric roses and a little bit of gold guilding wax.
Now I just need to sort out some little curios I want to display.

Take Notice of Your Surroundings

We tend to live in a bubble, only seeing what’s right in front of us, or focusing on things that relate to our interests. It’s easy to be unaware of your surroundings, but you might find some new friends if you just take notice of people around you. Your social circle is expanding as we speak, and it can be difficult to stay connected with everyone; however, all it takes is one person with whom you share something in common. After talking with them for a few minutes, they could lead you toward someone else who shares an interest of yours. Before long, your social circle will expand exponentially. Take notice: it’s important! You never know who you could meet. You never know where life might take you. And you never know how many new friendships might come out of seemingly random encounters. Expand your horizons and make more connections by taking more notice today. Who knows where it could lead? Who knows who you’ll meet? And most importantly, who knows how many amazing things will hap...

A Day in The Life of a Crafter

I have always had an interest in crafts and handmade items of all kinds, but I never considered myself to be very good. I set up an Instagram account first and I got some very nice comments about the things I had made. I thought it might be a good idea to share with you my typical crafty day. As you know I am at present a nurse, although I don't know how much longer I will be working. I'm hoping I can retire in the next couple of years. Anyway this is my crafty day when I am not at work. I wake up  roll out of bed and head downstairs for breakfast. I'm not a fan of huge breakfasts but I have to have something. After breakfast it's time to take Star out gonna walk. She loves her walk. After that it's back home and into The Craftroom. I spend some time finishing of a project  orcstarting a new one. I always seem to have more than one project on the go at once. At the minute I am working on some new items for a nature themed fair I am taking part in in April. I usually...

Christmas Wreath Decoration.

I made this Wreath using files from a Carnation crafts Christmas usb. It was really easy to make. It comes with all of the mats and layers you need as well as all of the decoupage. There are 3 mat layers. I cut two base layers in black, a middle layer in gold and the top layer in black. I cut two base layers because I have put a ribbon loop at the top so you can hang the finished Wreath up. I simply held the ribbon in place with a piece of tape and then sandwiched it between the two black base layers. Then I added the gold layer and finally the black top layer. Next was the decoupage. I printed the decoupage onto 128gsm Navigator paper. This is my go to paper. The print quality is exellent. I get mine in bulk from amazon but if you have a Wilko nearby they sell it as well. I glued the base layer in place flat. Then I added the decoupage pieces using silicone glue. I shaped the pieces to give a better effect by just gently moulding the pieces with my fingers. The sentiment was cut from ...
