My life has been very busy lately. My mother has had 15 falls so far tnis year and has been in and put of hospital.
She is 84 now and finally decided she should be living in a care home. I have been trying to talk her around to that for a couple of years now so this felt like a good step. I worry about her living alone in her house.
Well it's not that easy. My mother owns her own house so of she wete going to go into care she would have to pay for it herself. She lives in a 1960s semi that needs some work before we would be able to sell it. In some cases the local authority will pay for care until the property is sold and then claim the money back from the sale of the house. However my mother's Social Worker has refused to recommend this meaning it is impossible for her to move into a care home.
Now she is going to have carers four times a day. I'm pretty sure her falls will continue, and one of these days she is going to seriously hurt herself. A very sad case of lack of concern for our elderly citizens.
